Congratulations to our 2024 Mobius Awards of Environmental Excellence winners! On November 13, 2024, Divert NS hosted the 24th annual Mobius Awards of Environmental Excellence Gala at the Halifax Convention Centre to recognize and celebrate innovative Nova Scotians who are leaders in environmental action and waste reduction. 

Following the launch of their internships at the annual Clean Leadership Professional Development Conference, the 2024 Clean Leadership Waste Cohort has successfully completed another season with their host employers. 

Divert NS is awarding a total of $5,000 in cash prizes to primary and secondary students and schools in Nova Scotia for organizing a bottle drive in their community!

The Municipality of the County of Inverness has partnered with Celtic Shores Coastal Trail Association to install eye-catching anti littering signs at three trail heads in Inverness County. 

October 21 - 27, 2024 is Waste Reduction Week! For over 20 years, Divert NS has been celebrating Waste Reduction Week in Canada. Waste Reduction Week happens each year in October during Circular Economy Month. By focusing our efforts on extending the life of our products and materials through swapping, sharing, thrifting, and repairing, we are reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and contributing to the circular economy.

Join Divert NS, emcee Jeff Douglas (CBC's Mainstreet), and keynote speaker Dr. Jiaying Zhao (leading behavioral scientist at UBC), as we recognize and celebrate Nova Scotia's leaders in environmental action, waste diversion, and recycling.

Divert NS has partnered with the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) and will provide $50,000 in funding to the organization this year. The funding will provide micro-grants to ISANS business clients to support the implementation of waste diversion solutions in their businesses.

Congratulations to our 2024 Depot of the Year Winners, W. O’Leary’s Recycling Depot Garland’s Crossing & Carleton Road Bottle Exchange! These annual awards celebrate Enviro-Depots across Nova Scotia that go above and beyond in customer service and employee relations, engage and support their community, and participate in Divert NS depot initiatives.

Over the course of five weeks, I had the privilege of working with Divert NS, an organization dedicated to waste diversion and recycling management. This internship not only deepened my understanding of environmental sustainability but also sparked a passion for recycling and waste management that aligns with my career aspirations.

Cleaning up litter not only improves the aesthetics of our beautiful province, but it also plays a vital role in protecting the health of our environment and wildlife.

Waste disposal is an increasing challenge for the seafood industry in Nova Scotia. The leftovers from seafood processing, such as shells from lobsters and crab, are costly to dispose of and have slow biodegradation rates within compost facilities.
