2025 Mobius Awards
On November 5, 2025, Divert NS hosted the 25th annual Mobius Awards of Environmental Excellence at the Halifax Convention Centre, celebrating Nova Scotians who are driving real progress in waste reduction and environmental innovation. The evening opened with remarks from the Honourable Timothy Halman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, setting the stage for a night focused on impact and collaboration. With Keonté Beals (entertainer and children’s author) as emcee and keynote remarks from Mark Brand (chef and social impact entrepreneur), the event brought together leaders, partners, and changemakers from across the province for a night of recognition, inspiration, and connection. Each winner was presented with a limited-edition reproduction of a Joy Laking print, honouring their contribution with a piece of art from one of Nova Scotia’s most celebrated painters.

Keynote Speaker, Mark Brand
Mark Brand is one of Canada’s most recognized entrepreneurs in the field of social impact and community advocacy. He is a pioneering chef who uses food for good. He has become a prominent example of a new generation of leadership. He represents a growing breed of entrepreneurs and businesses that want to bake impact into everything they do.
Along with leading his 5 organizations, Brand leads the United Nations Catalyst team focusing on food waste, poverty, and the impacts of current systemic structures on the most marginalized, traveling globally to learn and share best real-world practices and solutions from kitchens and stages alike.
Emcee, Keonté Beals
Keonté Beals’ path to empowering others began with empowering himself. Growing up in North Preston, Nova Scotia, he learned early that your voice matters - but it took years to find the courage to use it authentically. When his deeply personal song “King” faced industry pushback for being “too real,” Keonté made a choice that would define his future: he chose truth over acceptance.
That decision opened doors he never expected. His children’s books now sit in classrooms across Canada. His presentations have inspired 50,000+ students to embrace their worth. His message of self-love has travelled from small-town stages to national conferences, proving that authenticity isn’t just powerful - it’s transformative.
