Summer Student Warehouse Worker

Divert NS is a not-for-profit based in Truro, NS, focused on supporting the province to recycle and live in more sustainable ways. Through a combination of stewardship programs and multiple initiatives, they provide new opportunities and approaches to waste diversion and reduction.

On their behalf, we are seeking a highly motivated team player to fill the Summer Student Warehouse Worker position at their processing facility in Kemptown, Colchester County, NS.

The Warehouse Worker will process used beverage containers collected through Divert NS’ beverage container recycling program and the Enviro-Depot™ network. They will be required to unload, bale, store, and load processed bales for shipment, and may also be involved in handling other program materials (e.g. paint), and performing quality control checks.

Term: Three months (June – August)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30-4:30 (typically)

Wages: $15.99 / hour

Responsibilities:

  • Unload program materials from trailers delivered to the warehouse site.
  • Sort certain program materials.
  • Load baled/processed materials on trailers for shipment.
  • Use electronic scanners and complete required paperwork daily.
  • Complete other necessary records as required.
  • Perform quality control checks of product received from Enviro-Depots to verify accuracy of product and quantity indicated on tags.
  • Assist with general cleanup requirements of the warehouse and yard.
  • Help to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Must be double vaccinated for COVID-19 and proof of vaccination is required.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license.
  • Must possess good communication skills to work in a team setting with other employees and outside contractors.
  • Must have good organizational skills relevant to the operation of an efficient warehouse.
  • Must be capable of performing basic maintenance checks on their equipment and fill out applicable paperwork.
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift and/or drag items weighing up to 75 pounds. Divert NS reserves the right to have the employee undergo a medical fitness test prior to hiring.
  • Experience working in an operations environment would be an asset.
  • WHIMIS and First Aid certificates desirable.
  • Safety shoes mandatory. Other safety items will be provided.
