Job Title: Communications Officer (Term Position)

Location: Truro, NS

Term Dates: July 2025 - December 2026

Work Model: Hybrid model (in-person and remote)

JobType: full-time (35 hrs/week)

Salary Range: $51,145 - $61,242 per year

 

Job Summary

Divert NS is currently seeking a Communications Officer to join their dynamic team on a term position. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Officer is responsible for providing support and assistance in the ongoing activities and goals of the Communications department as it implements internal and external communications initiatives for all stakeholders and audiences relating to waste diversion and the culture of recycling in Nova Scotia.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist with communications initiatives such as events, marketing campaigns, and stakeholder relations activities
  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts including creating content, tracking trending topics, overseeing community engagement, and analyzing and reporting on metrics
  • Develop engaging and informative content for web and maintain the organization’s website, including drafting and implementing changes to content, appearance, and layout while ensuring consistency and best practice adherence
  • Assist with the development and design of corporate and educational materials such as brochures, resource guides, lesson plans, videos, signage, data visualizations, and presentations
  • Maintain stakeholder contact database and support the development and implementation of stakeholder outreach strategies
  • Provide support to other departments on communication activities and events
  • Collaborate with industry partners to create content and maintain relationships

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant college or university degree with one to four years’ experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Proven working experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist
  • Proven working experience in website content management using a Content Management System, such as Drupal
  • Experience with graphic design and editing programs, ideally Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with digital communications tools and customer relationship management software
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of computer literacy: must be able to work in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams
  • Highly motivated, multi-tasking individual, displaying strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Collaborative, team player with ability and desire to interact with people at all management levels
  • Diplomacy, respect, autonomy, self-starter
  • A background in environmental activities or studies would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required.
