Enviro-Depots: Open for Business During the COVID-19 Pandemic
November 26 Update
During the COVID-19 pandemic, your local Enviro-DepotTM is doing their best to provide service to customers while keeping their staff and community safe. Enviro-Depots are independently owned and operated businesses; many are local-owned and family-run—and they greatly appreciate their customers’ continued support.
All depot locations across the province are currently open and providing refunds for beverage containers. However, many have implemented pandemic protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19. For example, some are asking customers to remain in their vehicles, some have adjusted their hours of operation, and some others are asking customers to count their containers before bringing them to their Enviro-DepotTM.
If customers want to return their beverage containers for recycling at their preferred depot but are not able to visit during the depot's modified hours, Divert NS encourages them to call their depot to make alternate arrangements. A list of Enviro-Depots and their phone numbers is available here.
Before visiting your local depot, we suggest that you please call ahead to confirm their business hours and if they have any specific safety measures in place that may impact your customer experience. When depots advise us of changes to their business hours, we are updating the depot map on our website and posting on our Facebook page.
We recommend all Enviro-Depots and their customers do the following:
- Wear a mask and stay 2 meters (6 feet) apart.
- Wash hands with soap and water, and use hand sanitizer.
- Regularly clean and disinfect work spaces, and common areas and surfaces.
- Stay up-to-date on the status of the pandemic and Nova Scotia’s State of Emergency at: https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus.
If we all continue to work together, we can help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Procedures and Guidelines for Visiting the Divert NS Office during COVID-19
Across Canada, extraordinary steps are being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Divert NS has a plan in place to protect the health of our employees and office visitors, and to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure at our workplace.
Our building managers have rules in place for visitors. When entering 35 Commercial Street, Truro, please follow their rules as described on their signage.
The Divert NS office is open regular business hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Staff are rotating working in the office and remotely. Please schedule meetings with Divert NS staff in advance.
When you arrive on the 4th floor, use the hand sanitizer located on the wall to the left of the Divert NS entrance.
If you are dropping off mail or packages:
- Place deliveries in the labelled box outside the Divert NS entrance.
- If you require a signature, press the doorbell on the wall to the right of the Divert NS entrance and wait for a staff member to let you into our office.
If you are visiting the Divert NS office for a scheduled meeting:
- Press the doorbell on the wall to the right of the Divert NS entrance and wait for a staff member to let you into our office.
- Before entering, visitors must answer:
- Have you travelled outside the Atlantic provinces in the last 14 days?
- Do you have any of the COVID-19 symptoms, as per NS Public Health?
- Note: If a visitor answers “yes” to either question, they will not be allowed to enter the Divert NS office.
- A Divert NS staff member will record your name and the date and time of your visit in the registration book at the reception desk.
- Visitors are required to follow physical distancing guidelines of 2 metres (6 feet) within the Divert NS office.
- Masks must be worn when in meeting rooms, until seated. Masks can be removed while seated.
- When leaving the Divert NS office, please use the hand sanitizer at the reception desk.
Thank you for your cooperation to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help keep everyone safe.
Note: The situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic is fluid and it is expected there will be changes to procedures over time. We ask that visitors remain flexible as we adapt to new requirements to keep us all safe.
April 23 Update
It has been just over a month since Divert NS' head office in Truro began operating remotely. For the most part, we continue to operate business as usual. Tire and beverage retailers are continuing to report and remit the deposits and fees they collect on our behalf; and we are continuing to collect used tires from businesses that remain open and service the Enviro-Depots that are still accepting beverage containers for refund from Nova Scotians.
It is not our intention to further burden retailers, distributors or Enviro-Depots during this time. Should the retailers or distributors that remain open encounter difficulties reporting or remitting payments to us, we encourage them to contact us directly to discuss arrangements on a case-by-case basis. Likewise, we understand the impact that the pandemic could have on the finances of Enviro-Depot™ partners, and we are offering assistance to them.
We are committed to working with our beverage container and used tire stewardship partners through the COVID-19 situation. As always, if anyone has questions or requires assistance from Divert NS, we invite you to reach out to us at 902-895-7732 or 1-877-313-7732 toll-free, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We greatly appreciate everyone’s continued cooperation and understanding during these difficult times.
Stay safe. Stay healthy.
March 22 Update
Divert NS continues to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation around the world and here in Nova Scotia. We are taking specific steps based on the advice of Public Health and Provincial government to slow its spread and mitigate the impact on our operations.
Divert NS Processing Facility Temporary Closure and the Enviro-Depot™ Network
Divert NS has determined that we are not able to maintain current operations at our processing facility in Kemptown, and as a result, the facility will close temporarily starting March 23. We are working to reopen as quickly as possible. During this time, we will continue to service the Enviro-Depots that remain open, for the time-being and until further notice. However, this status will be evaluated day-to-day.
Enviro-Depots are independently owned and operated businesses. We are strongly suggesting to them to follow the current requirements by Public Health and the Provincial government if they are continuing to operate.
Before visiting an Enviro-Depot™, we encourage you to call ahead to confirm if they are open and if they have any specific measures in place to protect their staff and the public from the spread of COVID-19 that may impact your customer experience.
Some depots have advised us of their temporary closures or changes to their business hours. A list is available for download.
Divert NS Office Closed
Effective March 23, the Divert NS head office at 35 Commercial Street, Truro is closed, however, we are still providing service with all office staff now working remotely. This change is to comply with the Provincial State of Emergency limiting gatherings to no more than five (5) people. Additionally, the building management is locking the main doors to the public.
If you have questions or require assistance from Divert NS staff, please call us at 902-895-7732 or 1-877-313-7732 toll-free, or email us at email@example.com.
We understand the importance of complying with Public Health and Provincial government requirements to slow the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to focus on what we can do, not what we can’t. We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding during these difficult times.
