Did You Know...?

On December 1, 2025, Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging, Paper Products, and Packaging-Like Products (EPR for PPP) was implemented, shifting responsibility for managing packaging and paper waste (i.e. curbside blue bag recyclables) from municipalities and taxpayers to those that supply the products into the province. This province-wide program standardizes residential recycling for all Nova Scotians. PET containers are one of the more valuable items for recycling centres — but only if they are clean! Rinsing your containers means that more make it to recycling.

Sharps should never be placed in recyclable containers or put out for curbside waste collection. It is bad for the environment and dangerous for waste collection workers.
