What are environmental fees and what are they used for?

In partnership with tire retailers, Divert NS administers a stewardship agreement to keep tires out of landfills. Fees paid when purchasing new tires go towards the pickup, recycling and administration of the used tire program in the province. 

They are $4.50 per tire for all passenger tires and light truck tires (including all on-road motorcycle, camper and trailer tires), $13.50 per tire for highway truck, tractor, and trailer tires not exceeding 24.5 inches.
